The Matsuri returns for fourth year

The Matsuri is a community event for both of local Japanese residents and local U.S. residents in Westchester County. The purposes of The Matsuri are to bring genuine Japanese culture to the community, to connect people with different backgrounds, and to deepen mutual understanding. In the past three years, more than 16,000 people in total came to enjoy this event.

You will enjoy: spectacular Japanese stage performances such as wadaiko, an amazing powerful Japanese traditional drum performance; anime and J-Pop musicians; Japanese traditional performing arts and martial arts; and more. A Japanese traditional dance performance by local kids and a kids’ chorus from a local music school are not to be missed.

Many kinds of food and trinket vender booths, such as Japanese traditional foods in various kinds from appetizers to desserts, original artistic goods, and unique Japanese festival goods, and more will also be available.

Raffle prizes, a Japanese tea ceremony demonstration, a calligraphy workshop and more, which all ages can experience and have fun, will also take place at The Matsuri.

The funds raised through this event had been donated to the victims of earthquake in Japan and to the local schools and nonprofit organizations.

The Matsuri will be held rain or shine on Sunday, May 21, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Ma Riis Park and the Harrison Public Library, 1 Heineman Place in Harrison. Admission is free and open to the public.

Presented by The Matsuri Inc. and the Asian Society of Arts, a nonprofit organization. Supported by the town/village of Harrison, Recreation Department and Harrison Public Library.
