Con Ed, saving energy and Columbus Day

Ron Belmont[dropcap]I[/dropcap] am happy to report that the board members of the Energy Improvement Corporation, EIC, unanimously agreed to accept the town/village of Harrison as a member. This is a major milestone for our community and I look forward to the implementation of energy-saving initiatives that will not only impact our environment on a broad scale, but will also generate savings for many of our businesses and building owners.

Monday, Oct. 10 is Columbus Day and Town Hall will be closed. Please make note of the sanitation schedule change for the week of Oct. 10. Garbage and recycling normally collected on Monday will be collected on Tuesday, Oct. 11. Tuesday’s collection will be made on Wednesday, Oct. 12. There will be no bulk trash collection on Wednesday.

The Harrison Public Library and Magic Box Productions, a leading media arts education nonprofit organization, invites Harrison residents to participate in a community-based oral history project on Monday, Oct. 10 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Town Hall. Don’t miss the opportunity to be a part of Harrison’s history as you share exciting and interesting topics about our town’s past, present and future.

Please take note of the following public service announcement, from Con Edison, that affects the following locations: Halstead Avenue and King Street #WG16007422-WTH-P5 (estimated start date: Sept. 29, estimated end date: Oct. 29) and Halstead Avenue between West and Hunter streets #WG16013719-WTH-P2 (estimated start date: Sept. 30, estimated end date: Oct. 31).

A Con Edison contractor will be working in your neighborhood for the next several days on a gas construction project. While they work, they’ll need to store supplies and equipment along the road in some areas. They also may need to excavate your sidewalk, driveway or lawn area. If your property is affected, they will restore it.

If you have questions about the upcoming work or private facilities buried in your lawn, such as sprinkler lines or electric dog fences, you may reach Kevin Dowling at dowlingke@coned.com.

During the work, they may need to interrupt gas service temporarily. They will notify you in advance if your service will be affected. They will need access to your home to restore your gas service, and they will work with you to accommodate your schedule.

If you are not home when work is completed and need your service restored, or have questions about landscaping or paving restoration after the work is completed, please call 1-800-75-CONED (1-800-752-6633) referencing the job identification number listed above. Please note that there is usually a delay between the end of the project and the final landscaping or paving restoration, which is completed by different contractors.

Con Ed is committed to working closely with you to minimize any inconvenience, and appreciates your patience. If you have any questions, please contact Westchester Public Affairs at 925-6361 or WestchesterPA@conEd.com.

In closing, I would like to wish all my Jewish friends and neighbors a very happy and joy filled Rosh Hashanah. May this new year be filled with peace, happiness and good health.

The next “Lunch with the Mayor” is on Friday, Oct. 7 and I will be at Porta Napoli Restaurant, located at 261 Halstead Ave. in downtown Harrison. I will be at this location from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. and look forward to meeting with residents and talking about issues facing our community.
